Welcome to the website of the Yorkshire and The Humber Rural Observatory (YHRO).

The YHRO is one of several themed regional observatories and part of the Yorkshire Futures network.

The YHRO is the regional rural intelligence network for Yorkshire and The Humber, providing information and intelligence about rural parts of the region, to inform rural policy-making and delivery in rural areas. The YHRO will lead on the development and promotion of a regional rural evidence base and provide expert advice to regional partners on key issues and trends across rural Yorkshire and The Humber.

Yorkshire and The Humber Rural Evidence Base 2007       

This is the third Rural Evidence Base report following its initial publication in 2005. The report follows similar themes to the region's main annual monitoring document - Progress in the Region.

Regional Rural Insights       

The Commission for Rural Communities (CRC) recently commissioned a survey into the perceptions and priorities of people living in rural areas. This data was reported on in their national Rural Insights Report 2006. The Rural Observatory was provided with regional Rural Insights data and have produce a regional report that analyses the views of those living in Yorkshire and The Humber.

Succession Planning Within Family Farms of Yorkshire & The Humber 2007       

This report has been produced by the Yorkshire Rural Support Network for the Framework for Change Yorkshire and The Humber. It is a study into succession planning for family farms across the region, collating people's views and opinions.

Yorkshire Futures - the hosts of the Rural Observatory website - have developed a new search tool on their site. This allows searching of partner sites - including the Rural Observatory site.

Year of Food and Farming       

The Year of Food and Farming initiative begins in September 2007. It is an industry-led initiative with full Government support designed to promote understanding of farming and healthy food. It has key aims and objectives for the year, all of which are detailed in the executive summary.
